The island's wine

Small wineries, big character

Menorca is not a high-volume wine island, and that is precisely what makes its wines special. The five active wineries produce small quantities with great attention to detail, resulting in wines with a distinctive identity that reflects the island's microclimate, soils and character.

The tramuntana — the north wind that batters Menorca for months — is key. It slows grape ripening, extends the season and adds freshness and acidity to the wines. Combined with the clay and limestone soils of the interior, it produces medium-bodied reds and well-structured whites.

Taking a bottle of Binifadet, Torralba, Sa Forana, Binitord or Santa Catalina home means taking something that only exists here. Pair it with Mahón PDO cheese or artisan sobrasada and you have the most Menorcan combination there is.

If you have questions, we are happy to help you choose the right wine in store.

Yes, in checked luggage without any problem. In the cabin, liquids are limited to 100 ml per container, so a bottle of wine must go in your checked suitcase. We recommend protecting it well or using a carry bag — ask us in store for advice.

There are currently five active wineries on the island: Binifadet, Torralba, Sa Forana, Binitord and Santa Catalina. Total production is small, which makes their wines hard to find outside Menorca. At s'Aturadeta we stock all of them.

For a gift, the Binifadet red is the most well-known and the one that tends to please people who are new to the island's wines. If you are looking for something more special, the Santa Catalina rosé or the Binitord white are very original choices. You can also pair it with cheese and sobrasada in a gourmet basket.

No. As well as wines from the five Menorcan wineries, we stock a selection of Spanish and international wines: Rioja, Ribera, Priorat, French, Italian and Portuguese wines, and sparkling wines such as cava and prosecco. Ask us in store and we will help you choose.

Reds go beautifully with cured or aged Mahón cheese and with sobrasada. Whites pair well with mild cheese, honey and seafood. Rosé is the most versatile and works with almost everything. It is the most authentic Menorcan combination there is.
