5 Cocktails with Mahón Gin to Make at Home

14 Sep 2026 · 4 min de lectura

Xoriguer Gin has been distilled in Mahón since 1812. Over two centuries with the same recipe, the same copper stills and the same Mediterranean juniper. The result is a gin with a profile completely different from Nordic ones — softer, warmer, easier to mix.

Here are five cocktails to make the most of it, from the most classic to the most surprising.

1. La Pomada — the cocktail of Menorca’s festivals

La Pomada is the most Menorcan cocktail there is. At Sant Joan festivities, at summer verbenas, on any terrace at the port of Mahón — there’s always a Pomada involved. For the full recipe with every trick, here’s the step-by-step guide.

Ingredients for 2:

  • 100 ml Xoriguer Gin
  • 300 ml artisan lemonade
  • Plenty of ice
  • 1 lemon slice (optional)

Method:

Fill the glass to the top with ice. Pour in the gin, add the lemonade slowly without breaking the fizz, and stir gently. The ratio is 1:3 — one part gin to three parts lemonade. For something softer, go 1:4.

The secret is in the lemonade. It has to be artisan, with real lemon juice — not an industrial soft drink. The difference is huge.

2. Mediterranean Gin Tonic

The classic gin and tonic revisited with Xoriguer. The result is more herbal, warmer and less bitter than with a Nordic gin.

Ingredients:

  • 50 ml Xoriguer Gin
  • 150 ml premium tonic (Fever-Tree or similar)
  • Large ice cubes
  • 1 sprig fresh rosemary
  • 1 orange slice

Method:

Large glass with ice. Pour in the gin, add the tonic very slowly down the side of the glass. Stir once. Garnish with the rosemary and orange — the rosemary lifts the herbal notes of the Xoriguer and the orange softens the whole.

3. Menorcan Negroni

The Negroni is one of the most balanced cocktails in the world. With Xoriguer instead of a standard gin, the result is a softer, more Mediterranean Negroni.

Ingredients:

  • 30 ml Xoriguer Gin
  • 30 ml sweet red vermouth
  • 30 ml Campari
  • 1 orange twist

Method:

In a mixing glass with ice, combine the three ingredients in equal parts. Stir for 30 seconds. Serve over a large ice cube in a rocks glass. Express the orange peel over the glass to release its oils and use it as garnish.

If Campari feels too bitter for you, try Aperol — the result is softer and fruitier.

4. Juniper Gin Fizz

A refreshing, elegant cocktail, perfect as an aperitif. The egg white gives it a creamy texture that contrasts beautifully with the lemon’s acidity.

Ingredients:

  • 50 ml Xoriguer Gin
  • 25 ml freshly squeezed lemon juice
  • 15 ml sugar syrup
  • 1 egg white
  • Soda water
  • Ice

Method:

In a shaker without ice, mix the gin, lemon, syrup and egg white. Shake hard for 15 seconds — this emulsifies the white. Add ice and shake another 15 seconds. Strain into a tall glass with no ice and top with soda water. The white foam that forms on top is the Fizz’s signature.

5. Mahón Sour

A Mediterranean take on the whisky sour, adapted to the Xoriguer’s profile. Sweet and sour, refreshing, and with more character than it looks.

Ingredients:

  • 50 ml Xoriguer Gin
  • 30 ml lemon juice
  • 20 ml orange juice
  • 15 ml Menorca honey
  • Ice
  • 1 lemon slice and a few drops of Angostura (optional)

Method:

In a shaker with ice, combine all ingredients. Shake vigorously for 20 seconds. Strain into a rocks glass with ice. Garnish with the lemon slice and a few drops of Angostura on the surface.

Menorca honey completely changes the cocktail’s profile compared to sugar. It’s more complex, more aromatic, and pairs perfectly with the Xoriguer’s juniper.
