What to See in Mahón in One Day: Port, Market and Old Town

14 Sep 2026 · 2 min de lectura

If you only have one day in Mahón, this itinerary covers the essentials without rushing or extra miles — port, market, old town, and a final stop to take home the best of the island.

Morning: the port of Mahón

Start at the port, one of the largest and deepest natural harbours in the Mediterranean. A relaxed walk along the Moll de Llevant lets you take in the moored boats, the old colonial houses looking out over the water, and the bustle of people starting their day there. It’s also the best spot to pick up something fresh before heading up to town — at our port shop, open from 8:30, you’ll find everything from coffee to go to last-minute souvenirs.

Mid-morning: up to the old town

From the port, climb one of the stairways or steep streets linking down to the historic centre. The contrast is part of what makes Mahón charming — from the colonial houses at the port to the narrow streets and Georgian façades of the centre, a legacy of the 18th-century British occupation.

Midday: the market and the town centre

Mahón’s covered market is a must-see if you want to take in the island’s fresh produce — fish, vegetables and meat have shared the same roof for over a century. Take the chance to wander the shopping streets of the centre, where you’ll also find our shop on Carrer de Bonaire, right in the old town and open Monday to Saturday.

Afternoon break: a pause with local produce

After the walk, nothing beats sitting down with a Mahón-Menorca cheese, a sobrasada and, if it’s the right time, an ice-cold Pomada. If you want to go deeper into what to take home, check our guides on how to choose the cheese and on which gastronomic gifts tend to always work.

Afternoon: souvenirs and last-minute shopping

Before the day ends, spend some time on authentic souvenirs from the island — avarcas, palm baskets and local crafts, far from the generic magnets of any tourist destination.

Before you go

If you ran out of time to buy everything you wanted, remember you can build a personalized gourmet basket at any of our three shops, and we’ll have it ready to go — no need to run from shop to shop.
