Pairing Menorca’s Products: What to Combine with Cheese, Sobrasada and Gin

14 Sep 2026 · 2 min de lectura

Having Menorca’s finest products on the table is only half the job — pairing them well is what makes a board or a meal memorable. Here’s the essential pairing guide for what you’ll find in our shops.

Mahón-Menorca cheese: which wine and which accompaniment

Mahón-Menorca cheese changes character a lot depending on its curing stage, and the pairing should follow suit:

  • Mild — fresh whites or rosés, and a mild honey like wildflower to offset its creaminess
  • Semi-cured — young, light reds, or a white with a bit more body
  • Cured — reds with structure, or straight to a Mahón gin with tonic to cut through the cheese’s richness

Sobrasada: contrasts that work

Sobrasada is fatty and spicy, so it responds well to pairings that contrast rather than pile on more intensity:

  • Honey — the classic, and for good reason: sweetness balances the paprika
  • Young, fruity red wines — they avoid competing with sobrasada’s power
  • Plain toasted bread — sometimes the best pairing is not overcomplicating it

For specific ideas on cooking with it, we have a full guide to sobrasada recipes.

Mahón gin: how to serve it and what to pair it with

Xoriguer Gin is versatile, but it shines in two settings: as a Pomada with ice-cold lemonade, or in a simple gin and tonic with mild botanicals that don’t mask its profile. As an aperitif, it pairs particularly well with olives, semi-cured cheese or a light sobrasada tapa — nothing that competes in intensity with the gin itself.

Menorca’s wines: which dishes to serve them with

If you have a wine from one of the island’s five wineries, fresh whites and rosés work best with fish, salads and mild cheeses; fuller-bodied reds call for hearty dishes like a caldereta or the cured cheese itself.

Build your own pairing board

The easiest way to try several pairings at once is to build a gourmet basket combining cheese at different curing stages, sobrasada, honey, wine and gin. We put it together at our shops in Mahón and Sant Climent, and if you’d like advice on what to combine depending on the occasion, message us on WhatsApp.
