How to fly home with Menorcan cheese, sobrasada and gin

It is the most common question from people leaving the island: can I take cheese, sobrasada and a bottle of gin on the plane? Generally yes, but it helps to know where to pack each item and what to check before you go.
Mahón-Menorca cheese
Cured cheese travels well. Ask for it vacuum-packed and wrap it in clothes inside your suitcase. If you are unsure which piece to buy, see our guide on how to choose cheese for travelling.
Sobrasada
Sobrasada is a soft, spreadable sausage, yet it holds up well when properly packed. If it is the spreadable kind, add an extra bag around the package just in case, and keep it away from heat sources in your luggage.
Gin, wine and other liquids
In the cabin, liquids are limited to small containers, so a bottle of Xoriguer gin or wine must go in checked baggage. Wrap it in clothes in the middle of the suitcase, or use a protective sleeve.
What to check for your destination
- Within Spain, usually no obstacles.
- If you travel to another country, check customs rules on meat and dairy products: some destinations restrict or ban them.
- Always check your airline’s baggage and liquids policy.
