A food trail through Mahón: cheese, gin, ensaimada and the market

Mahón is easy to walk and best understood by eating. This trail strings together five stops to taste and take home the most representative flavours of Menorca, unhurried and with the harbour as a backdrop.
1. Start at the harbour
A quiet coffee by the water is the best way to begin. If you need something for the road, at our Mahón Harbour store you will find everything from drinks and snacks to local produce.
2. The Claustre market
Fresh island produce under one roof: vegetables, fish, meat and charcuterie. A good place to understand what is cooked in Menorca and what is eaten each season.
3. Mahón-Menorca cheese
The island’s star product, with protected designation of origin. Learn to tell tender, semi-cured and cured apart in our guide on how to choose the best Mahón-Menorca P.D.O. cheese and what the designation guarantees.
4. Menorcan gin
British heritage left Mahón with a gin tradition that is still alive. Xoriguer gin is made in the city and is the base of the Pomada, the most Menorcan mixed drink.
5. Ensaimada and sweets
To finish, something sweet. To choose well, see the guide to ensaimada in Menorca and the list of traditional desserts and sweets.
Before you leave
If your plan includes taking produce home, stop by the Centro store, in the old town, and put your selection together calmly. And if you prefer to plan the whole day, see the itinerary for what to visit in Mahón in one day.
